From a viewpoint on the Molo, this composition depicts shipping on the Giudecca Canal, the Dogana, Santa Maria della Salute, the mouth of the Grand Canal, the Giardinetti Reali and the facade of Sansovino's Zecca. During his visit to Venice, Boudin noticed how: '..a storm wraps everything in a grey and dull mist...the waters, which don't resemble those of the Mediterranean, are mostly green and do not differ from the waters of the Channel.' Gwendoline Davies purchased this work in Paris in 1912.
