Amgueddfa Cymru Images is a picture library showcasing some of the best of Wales’ national collection without restrictions of copyright. We are both excited and proud to be able to share these carefully curated images with you in this special way. We hope they will bring inspiration and enjoyment. Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales’ open access policy will make our public domain collections available to everyone for enjoyment, research and inspiration. We believe that adopting an open access strategy lets everyone access and use our collections in innovative ways. This includes digitised public domain artworks, and historical photographs from our social, industrial and archaeological collections.

Who are we?
Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales is a family of seven national museums and one collections centre located throughout Wales. Our sites include a former working coalmine, woollen mill, and slate quarry. We have an outdoor site full of re-erected historic buildings from all over Wales. One of our Museums is in the centre of an old Roman fortress, and we also have a museum in the heart of Cardiff city centre. But we’re much more than our buildings.
The collections in our care
We have over 5 million objects in our collections including social and industrial history, the natural sciences, art and archaeology. Our collections are international in scope, multidisciplinary and unique in range and depth. We have everything from Roman artefacts and Impressionist paintings to dinosaurs, shells, and beautiful Welsh textiles.
Our Natural Science collection gives us a unique record of the natural history of Wales, charting evolutionary and environmental change over hundreds of millions of years. The Art collection includes design, applied art, photography, historic and contemporary art. It is a major international collection of British and European art, as well as from other cultures. Our History and Archaeology collections tell the story of Wales from 250,000 years ago to the present day with contemporary, social, industrial, and archaeology specimens. We also have library, archive, oral history, and audio-visual collections that cover a range of different areas across the collection disciplines.
