W.R. Sickert took lodgings and a studio in Mornington Crescent, behind Euston Station, in 1905. From 1909 this unfashionable street was painted repeatedly by Gilman's colleague Spencer Gore. This painting of about 1912 depicts the back of Mornington Crescent, probably viewed from the garden of 247 Hampstead Road, where Sickert had another studio. Margaret Davies purchased this work in 1934.
