Embroidered sampler dated 1 March 1848 by Mary Evans. The ground is an open weave cellulosic mesh and the embroidery is worked in coloured silks. The design depicts a biblical verse in the centre, with two peacocks and a tree above. At the sides there are flowers in pots and baskets. Underneath is a sleeping dog and two crowns. There is a floral border surrounding the piece. The stitching is entirely cross stitch.
